This lamp incorporates a Korean celadon maebyeong vase, transformed into a functional lighting fixture. The maebyeong, a Korean adaptation of the Chinese meiping, is characterized by a small, slightly curled mouth rim, short neck, rounded shoulders, and a constricted waist. The celadon glaze presents a soft green hue with a translucent quality, enhancing the depth of the incised and inlaid decorations. The surface features stylized floral motifs within circular medallions, set against a scrolling vine background. The lower section displays a band of elongated petal-like panels with punctuated details.

The vase is mounted on a carved wooden base, providing stability and complementing its traditional aesthetic. A brass fixture is affixed to the top, securing the electrical components. The lamp is fitted with a large cream-colored fabric shade with a slightly flared silhouette, diffusing light softly. The electrical cord extends from the base, maintaining a discreet profile to preserve the overall elegance of the piece.

The maebyeong form, derived from the Chinese meiping, was adapted by Korean artisans and often featured inlaid designs, a technique known as sanggam, where potters would engrave semi-dried pottery with designs and inlay them with contrasting colored clays. The glaze, achieved through a reduction firing process, results in a smooth, glossy finish with subtle variations in tone. The transformation of such vases into lamps became popular in the 20th century, catering to Western decorative preferences while preserving the integrity of the original ceramic craftsmanship.
